The long-standing position of the Coalition has been that restoration of rail service between New York City and Scranton, Penn. would be valuable, allowing long-distance commuters to take a break from driving (thus improving congestion and air quality on Route 80), enabling tourists and vacationers to reach new destinations, and adding options to areas of Northwest New Jersey that have long been “transit deserts”.
Please see the flyer below and consider making your thoughts, pro or con, known to the Members of Congress that represent the districts through which the service would travel. We know that it is generally true that where new transit is installed, prosperity follows: why not on the Lackawanna Cutoff?

Here is our suggested script:
My name is __________ and I live in ___________. I am calling today to ask you to support the “Lackawanna Cutoff” Amtrak project that will bring train service from New York City through northern New Jersey to Scranton, Pennsylvania. It is important to keep this project moving forward so that service can be restored to this line and increase public transportation options for New Jersey residents. It would provide service to several stations within New Jersey, including Blairstown, Dover, Morristown, Montclair, and Newark.
