Here’s a list of alternatives by town for those who need it:
Avenel – #115 to PABT…for Newark, take it to Jersey Gardens for the #24 or #40 (you have to walk through the mall to get to the local bus stop)
Woodbridge – #116 to PABT or #803 to Metropark/#48 to Rahway for the Northeast Corridor (all NEC trains also stop in Newark). For Newark, you can also take the #48 to Elizabeth for the #24/59/62.
Perth Amboy – #116 to PABT or #813 to Metuchen/#48 to Rahway for the Northeast Corridor (all NEC trains also stop in Newark). For Newark, you can also take the #48 to Elizabeth for the #24/59/62.
South Amboy – Ferry to Lower Manhattan/Midtown Manhattan. M7 to Old Bridge for the #139 to PABT (or #63/64 to Jersey City or #67 to Newark). M7 to Cheesequake/Jon Bon Jovi Park & Ride for Academy buses to PABT and Lower Manhattan. As a last resort, the #815 runs to New Brunswick for the NEC.
Aberdeen-Matawan – #131/133/135 to PABT. #817 to South Amboy for ferry to Lower/Midtown Manhattan.
Hazlet – Academy Route 36 from Airport Plaza to PABT, Academy GSP routes from PNC Bank Arts Center
Middletown – #834 to Leonardo for the Academy Route 36 to PABT, #834 to Red Bank, and then #832 or #838 to Exit 109 Park & Ride, for Academy GSP routes to PABT, Wall Street, and Jersey City
Red Bank – Academy “Shore Points” to PABT, #832 or #838 to Exit 109 Park & Ride for Academy GSP routes to PABT, Wall Street, and Jersey City. The #838 also continues all the way to Freehold for the #63/64 to Jersey City, #67 to Newark, or the #135/139 to PABT.
Long Branch – Academy “Shore Points” to PABT, #831 to Red Bank for #832/838 to Exit 109 Park & Ride for Academy GSP routes to PABT, Wall Street, and Jersey City. The #838 also continues all the way to Freehold for the #63/64 to Jersey City, #67 to Newark, or the #135/139 to PABT.
Elberon/Allenhurst – Academy “Shore Points” to PABT, #837 to Asbury Park for #836 to Freehold for the #63/64 to Jersey City, #67 to Newark, or the #135/139 to PABT.
Asbury Park – Academy “Shore Points” to PABT, #836 to Freehold for the #63/64 to Jersey City, #67 to Newark, or the #135/139 to PABT. As a last resort, the #317 to Brick Park & Ride for the #67 to Newark, #137 to PABT, or Academy to Lower Manhattan.
Belmar/Spring Lake/Manasquan/Point Pleasant – Academy “Shore Points” to PABT, #317 to Brick Park & Ride for the #67 to Newark, #137 to PABT, or Academy to Lower Manhattan.
For intermediate riders, keep in mind that the North Jersey Coast Line can be “replicated” by taking the following chain of buses from Newark: #24/59/62 to Elizabeth – #48 to Perth Amboy – #817 to Campbells Junction – #834 to Red Bank – #831 to Long Branch – #837 to Asbury Park (the #832 also runs directly from Red Bank to Asbury Park) – #317/830 to Point Pleasant.
As a general rule, keep in mind that the Academy buses operate down the following major corridors: https://academybus.com/commuter#routes-timetables. Also, riders should check the schedules for these bus routes, because some of them do not run full-service schedules.

- U.S.9 (also a major corridor for NJ Transit buses to PABT, Newark, and Jersey City)
- “Shore Points” (basically, the NJCL towns from Red Bank to Point Pleasant)
