Coach USA Cuts Newark Buses

We are a rail organization. However, we know that riders often connect to rail through their local bus (or in a more sustainable world with better schedules, they would do so), and bus connections to Newark rail stations are tangential to our immediate purview. We have followed the Newark NewBus plan, which ignored contract lines such as Coach USA’s 24, 31, and 44, assuming that they would continue unchanged. However, it was recently announced that those lines would lose Sunday and evening service as of mid-July. Given this situation, and the fact that Coach USA uses state-funded buses for these lines, it seems that, in exchange for that benefit, there should be some obligation on their part to maintain service. We expect the NewBus team to do some rethinking to ensure that those service cuts are addressed
